Bibliographic data, legal status, and technology classes.
Section 01
Patent search records should retain filing number, publication or grant identifier, applicant, inventor, date, jurisdiction, classification, and original link. One technology may have multiple family or language documents, so title or keyword alone cannot determine duplication and coverage.
—Identifiers support precise location
—Family relationship avoids double count
—Classification supports technology grouping
Section 02
Filing, publication, grant, fee, lapse, invalidation, or transfer status can change by time and jurisdiction. A map should display query date and source, retaining unknown status as uncertainty rather than guessing current coverage from an old page.
—Jurisdiction determines right coverage
—Query date determines status timeliness
—Uncertainty needs explicit marking
Section 03
Patent text reflects an applicant’s technical claim; its existence does not prove performance, mass production, or non-infringement. R&D and business decisions still need papers, samples, contracts, legal advice, and target-market information rather than infer competitive position from counts or applicant names.
—Claims differ from experimental results
—Legal analysis needs professional advice
—Counts do not equal commercial strength
