On September 21, JNION Energy held a commissioning ceremony for its 20,000-tonne sodium-ion polyanion cathode material expansion project at its Zigong plant. Fan Haiman, General Manager of JNION Energy Group, attended the ribbon-cutting alongside guests including Yang Tao, Chairman of Zigong Gaoxin Investment Group, and Tang Min, its General Manager, followed by a plant tour. With this second 10,000-tonne-scale line coming online after the first was commissioned in December 2024, the company's polyanion cathode capacity has doubled. According to Starting Point Research (SPIR), JNION has ranked first in global polyanion cathode shipments for three consecutive years, shipping 4,100 tonnes in 2025; the company expects annual shipments to reach 10,000 tonnes after the new line's commissioning.
On technology and products: founded in April 2022, JNION focuses on the polyanion cathode and anode route. Leveraging its iron-based polyanion core patents, the company has built a full NFPP cathode portfolio — the A series for cost-effectiveness, the R series for high-rate and ultra-low-temperature applications, and the H series for higher energy density — covering grid-scale storage, light electric mobility, HEV and AIDC data-center backup scenarios. Per company disclosures, its sodium iron phosphate (NFPP) material achieves cycle life above 15,000 cycles at 1C, practical specific capacity of 115 mAh/g, and capacity retention above 85% at -30°C; its flagship JNFP-1 product has shipped over 4,500 tonnes.
The company supplies BYD, EVE Energy, Chaowei Group and Pylontech in stable volumes, and has raised several hundred million yuan cumulatively from investors including Shunwei Capital, Chaowei Group, Zigong Gaoxin Investment and EVE Energy. The project builds on Zigong's salt-chemical industrial base: signed in 2023, with the first 10,000-tonne line commissioned in December 2024 — described by the company as the world's first 10,000-tonne-scale polyanion sodium-ion cathode production line.
Apply: commissioning is a capacity milestone, not full utilization — new lines typically require ramp-up, yield improvement and customer qualification; the 10,000-tonne annual shipment figure is a company target, not an accomplished fact; and claims such as "world's first 10,000-tonne-scale production line" and "three consecutive years as global No.1" are company-cited third-party statistics that have not been independently verified.
