On September 17, Yongzhen Co. (603381.SH) disclosed an announcement on investing in a 60,000-tonne-per-year finished battery aluminum foil project: the company plans to invest CNY 597.028 million, implemented by wholly owned subsidiary Yongzhen Technology (Wuhu) Co., Ltd. At the company's existing site in Fanchang Economic Development Zone, Wuhu, Anhui Province, through adaptive renovation of existing plant buildings. The project focuses on high-end ultra-thin battery foil of 10 microns and below, with an expected construction period of 24 months, funded by the company's own and self-raised funds; it is currently in the preliminary preparation stage.
On product positioning: battery aluminum foil is a key current-collector material for both lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries. The project targets power and energy-storage batteries as its core market, with consumer electronics and sodium-ion batteries as complements, leveraging the power-battery industrial cluster around Wuhu and Anhui (home to CATL, BYD, SVOLT and other leading cell makers) to serve regional customers first. Notably, the filing includes a dedicated sodium-battery foil demand estimate: citing Qidian sodium-battery forecasts, the global sodium-ion battery market is expected to grow from 6.2 GWh in 2025 to 345.0 GWh in 2030.
Because both electrodes of a sodium-ion cell can use aluminum foil current collectors (lithium-ion anodes require copper foil), and each GWh of sodium-ion capacity conservatively requires 600-900 tonnes of foil, global sodium-battery foil demand is estimated at about 3,700-5,600 tonnes in 2025, rising to 207,000-310,500 tonnes by 2030, a CAGR of about 123.4%. The filing states that 'technological progress and application expansion of sodium-ion batteries effectively drive up foil consumption per unit, bringing incremental demand to the battery aluminum foil market'.
