On September 15, the energy storage system equipment procurement for the Renqiu Zhihong 100MW/400MWh LFP battery + sodium battery hybrid independent storage pilot project in Hebei Province released its bid award result announcement. According to SMM flash news and BJX Energy Storage Net, the procurement was split into two lots: Lot 2, the 10MW/40MWh sodium-ion battery energy storage system, was officially awarded to CATL at RMB 41.41622 million, equivalent to approximately RMB 1.035/Wh; Lot 1, the 90MW/360MWh LFP battery energy storage system (comprising 30MW/120MWh high-capacity and 60MW/240MWh long-life units), was awarded to Envision Energy at a reported price of approximately RMB 0.518/Wh.
Located in Renqiu, Cangzhou, Hebei, the project is among China's earlier independent storage demonstration projects adopting a dual-chemistry LFP + sodium-ion approach, with a 90% LFP + 10% sodium-ion capacity configuration in which the sodium segment mainly provides power support and safety backup under wide-temperature conditions while the LFP units carry the main energy throughput. The project includes a 220kV booster station connected to the regional grid. Timeline: tender notice on August 7, bid opening on September 8, candidate announcement on September 9, and award result announcement on September 15.
The sodium segment award price of about RMB 1.035/Wh is consistent with the RMB 0.96-1.105/Wh range disclosed in recent sodium storage tenders, but remains well above the roughly RMB 0.518/Wh LFP segment price in the same project, indicating that sodium-ion storage does not yet hold an upfront cost advantage over LFP; its inclusion in hybrid configurations rests on differentiated value in wide-temperature operation, safety and power characteristics. Per verification rules, an award result announcement does not equal a signed contract, let alone delivery and grid connection; the tender requires first-batch delivery within 45 calendar days of contract signing and full delivery within 60 days.
