Per an announcement on September 10 via the official channels of the Huangshan District government (Huangshan District media center), the district held a signing ceremony that day for a bamboo-based 'replace plastic with bamboo' deep-processing project, with Anhui Zhongchi Energy Technology formally signing on as the investor. Wu Xiaosheng, deputy secretary of the district Party committee and district head, Hu Yi, head of the Huangshan City Forestry Bureau, and Jiao Zhenlong, deputy district head, attended the ceremony. Wu said the project is a key initiative for green, low-carbon development and the conversion of ecological value, that it will fully activate local moso bamboo resources and extend the bamboo deep-processing chain, and that the district will provide full support on land, services and policy to push the project toward early construction and production.
On project scale, per the official release, the project involves a total investment of about RMB 300 million and comprises two sub-projects: 100,000 tons/yr of bamboo product deep processing plus comprehensive bamboo-waste treatment, and 50,000 tons/yr of bamboo-carbon-based polymer materials. At full capacity it will produce, process and sell 18,000 tons/yr of bamboo products, 12,000 tons/yr of sodium-ion battery anode material precursor and 50,000 tons/yr of bamboo-carbon polymer materials.
The investor, Zhongchi Energy, is wholly owned by Anhui Hongye Group - a Chizhou-headquartered leader in bamboo daily consumer products that in recent years has used whole-bamboo resource pyrolysis technology to convert bamboo waste into bamboo-carbon new materials, and has released a corporate roadmap targeting 500,000 tons/yr of bamboo-carbon polymer materials and 300,000 tons/yr of sodium-carbon precursor carbonized material by 2030 (company planning figures). Bamboo biomass is one route for sodium-ion battery hard-carbon anodes: carbonized material from moso bamboo waste can, after further processing, be used in hard-carbon production, and such agro-forestry-residue carbon materials are becoming a new entrant direction in the biomass hard-carbon supply chain thanks to raw-material cost and scale-up potential.
The project is primarily bamboo-based new materials, with the sodium anode precursor being only one of three product directions, and the 12,000-ton figure refers to precursor (carbonized material), not finished hard-carbon anode capacity; signing does not equal construction, and construction does not equal production - the release disclosed no construction period or production timetable; Hongye's 2030 roadmap of 500,000/300,000 tons is corporate planning, and planned capacity does not equal actual capacity.
