On September 11, financial media including Stockstar and Eastmoney reported that Zhongwei New Materials (300919.SZ / 02579.HK) disclosed in a recent investor research activity the progress of its sodium-ion business: sodium-ion material shipments exceeded 2,000 tonnes in H1, and the company will push toward ten-thousand-tonne-scale deliveries. The company regards sodium-ion as a new-energy material with standalone value, highlighting advantages in wide-temperature operation, long cycle life and AI data-center (AIDC) scenarios, and says it will maintain its first-mover position in sodium-ion materials. On the demand side, it judges that battery makers' medium-to-long-term sodium-ion plans now range from 20-60 GWh each, implying front-end material demand moving toward the hundred-thousand-tonne scale (all company-disclosed figures).
Additionally, per GGII, China's sodium-ion cell shipments reached 2.4 GWh in 2025, up 58.7% year-on-year, and are projected to reach 100 GWh by 2030.
This is the first time a leading materials company has quantified its sodium-ion materials progress in a 'shipments + delivery target' format - a 2,000-tonne-plus half-year figure implies batch supply rather than pilot scale, while the ten-thousand-tonne target maps to material support for scheduled cell-customer ramp-ups. Shipment and target figures are company-disclosed, and 'pushing toward' does not constitute a delivery commitment; the 20-60 GWh battery-maker plans are medium-to-long-term customer plans where planned capacity does not equal actual capacity, and materials demand realization depends on downstream utilization; AIDC-scenario demand is still early.
