On September 5, according to Securities Daily (republished by China Economic Net), CATL's "Tianheng sodium-ion energy storage solution" was showcased at the 2026 World Power Battery Conference held in Yibin, Sichuan, drawing inquiries from many attendees. A CATL representative told Securities Daily: "We will deliver the first batch of sodium-ion energy storage solutions in the China market in September, with a year-end shipment target of 1 GWh." The representative said sodium-ion batteries feature an ultra-wide temperature range, ultra-long cycle life and more stable storage returns, and that related storage products suit scenarios such as AI data centers. It should be noted that the delivery schedule and shipment target above are the company's on-site statements; as of press time, no independent company announcement or acceptance information confirming completion of the first-batch delivery has been seen.
Regarding product and order background, Tianheng is CATL's station-level sodium-ion energy storage solution. According to a September 4 industry report by 10jqka, CATL has signed a three-year, 60 GWh sodium-ion battery energy storage strategic cooperation agreement with HyperStrong, and its "Tianheng sodium-ion" storage system is set to begin delivery in the China market in September. Per the company's public investor-relations content, the Tianheng sodium-ion storage system adopts a platformized design switchable with lithium systems of the same dimensions, and the company, together with supply-chain partners, has also landed a 2 GWh single-unit large independent storage project. If the first-batch delivery is completed as scheduled in September, it will mark a key milestone for the company's sodium-ion storage business moving from product launch to scale delivery.
A shipment target is not realized revenue, and planned capacity is not actual output.
