On August 30, Beijing Xibei Power Technology Co., Ltd. (Xibei Power) held its partnership and project signing event in Zigong, Sichuan. According to China News Service Sichuan, at the signing ceremony the company's high-power sodium-ion battery production base project was officially signed for Zigong High-Tech Zone: planned total investment of about CNY 250 million, an expected annual production capacity of 0.5GWh of high-power sodium-ion batteries at full operation, and expected annual sales revenue of about CNY 500 million. Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Beijing, Xibei Power is a national high-tech enterprise focusing on vanadium-based cathode materials and high-power sodium-ion batteries; company chairman Yang Daojun said at the event that the project originally planned to produce cathode materials but was adjusted to cells due to market changes.
The signing event also showed clear industrial-cluster characteristics: besides Xibei Power, four sodium-industry companies - Wuxi-based Nake Energy Technology, as well as Tailing Technology, Lanhai Intelligent and Sida Lüdao - gave on-stage presentations covering sodium materials, in-vehicle applications and charging/swapping supporting segments. From an industrial-chain perspective, Xibei Power has drawn industry attention for its anode-free sodium-ion technology route (previously disclosing results such as 3,800-cycle data); landing in Zigong means the company is moving from technology validation toward capacity construction, filling the high-power sodium cell manufacturing gap in Zigong High-Tech Zone, where sodium players such as Xingchu Century and Sichuan Qingna Energy already operate.
Signing does not equal construction start - the project still needs plant construction, equipment installation and line commissioning, with no disclosed commissioning date; the 'long-term plan of 10GWh' is a corporate planning figure - planned capacity does not equal actual capacity; the 'about CNY 500 million annual revenue' is a post-ramp expectation.
