On the morning of August 28, the signing ceremony for Huzhou Chaona New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.'s 6GWh annual sodium-ion battery production line project was held in Mianzhu. According to the Mianzhu municipal government website (Jinri Mianzhu), Chen Yangbo, Secretary of the Mianzhu Municipal Party Committee and Party Working Secretary of the Mianzhu High-tech Zone, along with other officials, attended the ceremony, where the Mianzhu High-tech Zone Management Committee and Huzhou Chaona signed the Investment Agreement. At the ceremony, Huzhou Chaona Chairman Jiang Yinzhu, Hangzhou Jiuzhi Investment Management's investment director, and the Bank of China Deyang Branch's president introduced the project basics, cooperation and financial services respectively.
Huzhou Chaona's cooperation with Mianzhu dates back to January 2024, when the company's sodium-ion cathode material project settled in Mianzhu, establishing a 10,000-tonne-level cathode industrialization layout. This 6GWh sodium-ion battery production line project extends the company's Mianzhu footprint from materials to cell manufacturing. Mianzhu officials said the project will enable the city to form a complete sodium-ion battery industrial chain from materials to cells and applications, pushing Mianzhu from a single lithium advantage toward a 'lithium and sodium in parallel' strategic pattern. In 2024, Mianzhu's lithium battery new materials industry generated nearly CNY 20 billion in output value, with total industrial output exceeding CNY 90 billion, gathering companies such as Chuanfa Longmang, Guocheng Lithium and Fulin New Materials.
This is a signing rather than groundbreaking or production; the investment amount, construction period and production timeline are not disclosed in public reports, and capacity is a planned figure - signing does not equal construction, let alone actual capacity; 6GWh is planned capacity and actual ramp-up depends on market orders and capital arrangements.
