On August 25, TrendForce released new progress on energy storage orders, citing the Changde Economic Development Zone Changde News Broadcast report and disclosing that a batch of 30 MWh energy storage project batteries customized by a Mexican customer at Changde KUNYU New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. Is being produced intensively, with delivery expected before the end of October, and the single order value reaches RMB 35 million. Changde KUNYU is a subsidiary of the KUNYU Group (the parent company is Dongying KUNYU Power Technology Co., Ltd.), mainly engaged in R&D and production of lithium batteries and sodium-ion batteries, and is one of the earlier enterprises in Hunan Province to achieve mass production of sodium-ion batteries. According to Song Bai, General Manager of Changde KUNYU, the company's sodium-ion batteries have significant advantages in low-temperature discharge performance, safety and charge-discharge efficiency; the products have been sold to Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Singapore and other countries, and the company expects the sales share of sodium-ion batteries to increase from 5% to more than 30% by the end of 2027.
In terms of capacity layout, Changde KUNYU's 1.5 GWh sodium-ion battery production line was put into mass production in September 2025 (the first mass-production sodium-ion production line in Hunan Province); combined with the 0.5 GWh pilot line of Changde KUNYU New Energy, the sodium-ion capacity of KUNYU Power has increased to more than 2 GWh. The company has formed a 'sodium-lithium complementary' coordinated development pattern, with products widely used in power storage, communication storage, new energy vehicles, AIDC data center backup power and other fields.
In terms of R&D, Changde KUNYU established a sodium-ion R&D center in September 2022 in cooperation with Central South University, Harbin Institute of Technology and Harbin Engineering University, successively developing 80Ah/95Ah/100Ah/168Ah/210Ah and other specifications of cells; the 210Ah prismatic aluminum-shell sodium-ion cell released in June 2024 adopts the lamination process, with an energy density of 135 Wh/kg and a cycle life of more than 2,000 cycles, suitable for household storage, industrial and commercial storage, A00-class electric vehicles and other scenarios. In February 2025, Hunan Province released the 'Top Ten Key Technical Research Projects', and the 'Wide-Temperature High-Performance Sodium-Ion Battery R&D' project was included, with Changde KUNYU as a core member.
The order value (RMB 35 million) and delivery time (before end of October) are disclosed by the Changde Economic Development Zone report and have not been verified by an independent third party; the 'sales share of sodium-ion batteries to increase from 5% to more than 30% by the end of 2027' is a company target, not yet achieved; the actual contribution of overseas orders to the revenue structure needs to be disclosed subsequently.
