According to voc.com.cn (Huashang Online, Changde channel) coverage on August 20 (source: Jinshi Convergence Media Center), on August 18, Hunan Fengri Electric Group's sodium battery project was signed to settle in Jinshi High-Tech Zone, with Jinshi Party Secretary Peng Zisheng hosting the signing ceremony and Mayor Li Junlin attending. The project plans a total investment of RMB 1 billion, to be built in two phases with an annual capacity of 1GWh of intelligent sodium-ion cell production lines. At full capacity, it is expected to generate annual sales revenue of RMB 2 billion and provide 180 jobs, driving the coordinated development of local new materials, equipment maintenance and logistics supporting industries.
From a company background perspective, Fengri Electric (Hunan Fengri Power Supply & Electrical Co., Ltd.) is a private group with more than 40 years of history in the power supply field, integrating lead-acid batteries, sodium batteries, lithium batteries, DC power supplies, wind-solar storage and waste battery recycling. It has a national postdoctoral research workstation and 56 patents, and has been recognized as a national-level specialized "Little Giant" enterprise and a Hunan provincial manufacturing single-product champion; "Fengri" is a well-known Chinese trademark.
In mid-August, the company shared its views on performance barriers and high-end development requirements for sodium-ion batteries in the start-stop segment at the 2026 SMM Battery Technology Conference sodium track, showing it has made sodium batteries a key development direction with a dedicated sodium business unit. Jinshi City, located in Changde, Hunan, said the local government will ensure factor needs are met so the project can reach production and full capacity as soon as possible.
It should be clarified that signing does not equal production — the project is still at the agreement stage, and the investment amount, capacity scale and post-full-capacity sales revenue (RMB 2 billion) are all signing-caliber figures; the actual construction period and commissioning time have not been disclosed.
