According to Battery Network (China Battery Industry Association media) coverage at 10:00 on August 19 and an SMM news flash on August 19, the 1.5GWh sodium-ion battery production line of NaMei New Energy Technology (Bazhong) Co., Ltd. Is about to officially commence production, with a launch ceremony and a Bazhong sodium battery industry supply-demand matching conference scheduled for mid-September in Bazhong City. The reports state that NaMei New Energy Technology (Bazhong) Co., Ltd. Is a wholly-owned subsidiary and core mass-production base established by NaMei New Energy Technology (Luoyang) Co., Ltd.
In Bazhong City, Sichuan Province, founded in October 2025 and located in the Bazhong Economic Development Zone Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park. The project has a total investment of about RMB 500 million with a plant area of 30,000 square meters; equipment installation, process commissioning, system joint testing and on-site acceptance are all about to be completed, and the project will have formal production conditions. At full capacity, it is expected to generate annual revenue of over RMB 600 million and create about 700 local jobs.
From an industry background perspective, NaMei Technology was founded in October 2023 and is a high-tech enterprise focused on R&D, manufacturing and sales of sodium-ion batteries. On the market side, the company has signed orders with multiple industry players including Wangyang Group, XJ Storage, CARCOOL, Dongxin Electric Control, Three Gorges Energy and Tongji Electric Power, with cumulative in-hand orders of RMB 890 million, matching capacity construction with market orders. After the Bazhong base commences production, it will form sodium-ion battery supply capacity for scenarios such as energy storage and backup power. Bazhong in Sichuan becomes another region deploying sodium battery mass-production capacity after its lithium battery industry, and the city's supply-demand matching conference shows local government efforts to build a regional sodium battery industrial ecosystem.
However, the combination of a launch ceremony and supply-demand conference shows that local governments and enterprises are focusing on market order development while advancing capacity deployment. The RMB 890 million in-hand orders, if converted at current sodium battery cell prices, corresponds to a scale that must be verified against actual delivery. It should be noted that 'about to commence production' does not mean production has started; the mid-September launch ceremony is a company-disclosed plan.
