According to the Starting Point Sodium WeChat account (8月17日 'Sodium Nine-Thirty' morning news, with the event occurring on August 15) and related disclosures by Tianneng Co., Ltd. (A-share 688819.SH, listed on the SSE STAR Market in July 2021), Zhejiang Tianneng Sodium Technology Co., Ltd. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tianneng Co., Ltd., established in September 2022 with registered capital of 62 million yuan) officially launched its 5.0 version sodium-ion automotive start-stop battery. The model is A379D-20M, using polyanion-system soft-pack pouch cells to build a 12V platform, targeting automotive start-stop systems for fuel and hybrid vehicles, with drop-in compatibility.
The 5.0 product features six core performance advantages: support for 20C ultra-high-rate discharge to handle the high current demand of vehicle start-up; safety maintained even under 2x overcharge; cycle life exceeding 3,000 cycles, enabling 'ten-thousand-time ignition'; wide climate tolerance with -40°C normal discharge and stable operation at 80°C high temperature; super recharge capability with fast charging response; and a smart BMS management system offering cell-level overcharge protection, high/low temperature current limiting, overall balancing, and battery sleep protection; the extreme-cold version additionally includes a charging heating function. At the cell level, the product is optimized with a super composite sodium cathode material, thickened and widened tab process for greater deep-discharge cycling stability, current-carrying redundant design for the output harness, and fire-retardant materials to improve inherent safety. The product is available in three climate-zone versions (normal, low-temperature, extreme-cold) to match regional vehicle operating environments.
Tianneng Group has built dual technology routes in the sodium-ion field, layered oxides and polyanion: in March 2023, it released its first sodium-ion battery 'TianNa T1' for the light-power market; in 2024, it developed a layered-oxide sodium-ion soft-pack pouch cell with 160 Wh/kg energy density that passed nail-penetration and thermal-abuse safety tests; in August 2025, it officially launched sodium-ion automotive start-stop batteries (the 'TianNa' 12V start-stop series, covering H5/H6/H7 passenger-car models), identifying automotive applications as a core breakthrough; in October 2025, as one of the main drafters, it helped push the international standard proposal '12V Sodium-ion Battery for Automotive Start-Stop' through 17 P-member countries; this 5.0 launch represents a further iteration of the start-stop product line. Backed by GW-level cell production capacity, hundreds of authorized patents, and UN38.3 international certification, Tianneng Sodium-Ion 5.0 uses sodium-ion technology to replace traditional lead-acid start-stop batteries. It should be noted that current public information does not disclose the product's specific price, market launch timing, signed order situation, customer list, capacity matching, or revenue expectations.
However, the current purchase cost is still slightly higher than lead-acid. With scaled production and the sodium-ion consumption-tax exemption policy taking effect on September 1, the cost curve is expected to keep falling. Continued tracking is recommended of Tianneng Sodium-Ion 5.0's actual order disclosures and first-batch customer feedback after launch, as well as the sodium-ion start-stop product iteration progress of other lead-acid/lithium companies such as Camel Group, Chilwee Power, Fengri Sodium, and CSSC Fanway.
