According to a report published by 21st Century Business Herald on August 14, 2026 ("Vitality China Research Tour", republished by Eastmoney at 18:03 on August 14), Gotion High-Tech (002074.SZ), a leading power battery maker based in Hefei, disclosed its sodium-ion battery commercialization timeline. A Gotion High-Tech representative told the 21st Century Business Herald reporter that the company's "Na Chen" sodium-ion battery improves energy density and lowers cost by eliminating the traditional anode, and uses multi-stage pre-sodiation technology to lower the battery reaction energy barrier and improve cell cycle performance.
In the power battery track, sodium-ion will open up the cost-sensitive new energy vehicle market, and power-grade sodium-ion products can achieve iterative energy density upgrades; in the storage track, sodium-ion can significantly reduce equipment supporting and later-stage O&M costs of storage power stations. "By the end of this year, we will have GWh-scale effective sodium-ion capacity and complete commercial batch deliveries. Overall, the commercialization of sodium-ion in 2026 is not about simply replacing lithium-ion, but forming a new pattern of lithium-sodium synergy in the industry," the representative said.
From a company background perspective, Gotion High-Tech is one of the earliest power battery companies in China to deploy sodium-ion batteries, having previously built sodium battery production lines at its Tangshan and Hefei bases; its "Na Chen" sodium-ion battery is positioned as a "launch-ready for mass production" product. The company also co-builds innovative battery joint laboratories with universities, collaborating on materials, simulation and digitalization R&D. This statement sets the sodium-ion commercialization pace explicitly as "GWh-scale effective capacity with commercial batch deliveries by end-2026", and for the first time systematically articulates a "lithium-sodium synergy" rather than replacement technology positioning, consistent with the current mainstream industry view of "storage-first, lithium-sodium in parallel".
The above statements are company claims; "GWh-scale effective capacity by end of year" and "completing commercial batch deliveries" are company-set goals and plans, not achievements; uncertainty remains between capacity build-out, actual shipment volumes and downstream demand realization; the "lithium-sodium synergy" statement reflects the company's judgment on sodium-ion market positioning, and cannot yet be used to conclude the future market share relationship between sodium-ion and lithium-ion.
