According to a flash news report by Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) on August 10, the environmental impact report of the 6GWh sodium-ion cell manufacturing project (Phase I) of Inner Mongolia Runya Sodium-Era New Energy Co., Ltd. Has been officially approved, moving the project into substantive progress. The environmental impact assessment approval is one of the key administrative review steps before project construction; this approval marks phased progress in the project's preliminary procedures.
From a project entity perspective, Inner Mongolia Runya Sodium-Era New Energy Co., Ltd. Was established in May 2023 with a registered capital of RMB 200 million, registered in Tumd Left Banner, Hohhot, with business scope covering battery manufacturing, battery sales, and energy storage technology services. The approved phase is the Phase I of the 6GWh sodium-ion cell manufacturing project. Leveraging green electricity resources and land cost advantages, Inner Mongolia is becoming a popular region for sodium-ion and energy storage cell capacity deployment; multiple sodium-ion industry-chain projects have been launched or advanced in the region previously.
However, it should be noted that environmental approval does not equal groundbreaking; the actual start time, investment scale, and commissioning pace depend on subsequent procedures and market conditions, which have not been disclosed yet. The continued filing and approval of sodium-ion cell capacity reflects the industry's early positioning for future energy storage demand; however, planned capacity does not equal actual capacity, and actual ramp-up should be based on the company's subsequent announcements.
