According to a July 31 report by Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), on July 28 Zou Weimin, chairman of Jiangsu Chuanyi Sodium Battery Technology Co., Ltd., led a delegation to Tianjin to sign a strategic cooperation agreement with Tianjin CEC New Energy Research Institute Co., Ltd. Liang Hai, chairman of the research institute, hosted the meeting, and the agreement was signed on behalf of both sides by Wang Xiaojun, general manager of Chuanyi Sodium, and Fu Huiqun, general manager of the institute. SMM framed the partnership as “state-owned enterprise technology plus private manufacturing capability”: Chuanyi Sodium, based in the Chengnan New Economy Zone of Gaoyou, Yangzhou, occupies about 410 mu and describes itself as one of the few Chinese manufacturers with an integrated “materials plus cells” sodium-ion layout, with in-house R&D covering cathode, anode and electrolyte materials; the Tianjin institute brings state-owned R&D resources and project networks in sodium batteries.
The strategic agreement sets out plans; no products or new capacity have yet been delivered. Notably, the SMM report cited company materials saying Chuanyi Sodium “has 1 GWh of product delivery capability.” That is a capability claim indicating readiness, not evidence that 1 GWh has actually been delivered; the report discloses no order volume, delivered volume or capacity commitments under the cooperation. The scope of collaboration, technology transfer path and order scale remain to be disclosed.
