On July 23, GGII published statistics on China’s sodium-ion battery supply chain for the first half of 2026. Shipments by Chinese sodium-ion battery makers reached about 1 GWh in H1 2026, up more than 25% year on year, with small-power applications accounting for over 40% of the mix. On the materials side, cathode shipments reached about 10,000 tonnes (up more than 100%), anode shipments about 3,500 tonnes (up more than 85%), and electrolyte shipments about 4,600 tonnes, with leading makers already operating kilotonne-scale sodium hexafluorophosphate lines. GGII’s incomplete statistics count over 19 financing events exceeding RMB 1.7 billion in H1 2026, above the roughly RMB 1.2 billion recorded for all of 2025.
This is a completed fact (institutional data release); all figures are GGII’s statistical estimates. GGII notes the industry is currently “hot outside, cool inside”: active financing and materials stockpiling versus limited cell volume. Energy-storage growth lagged the year-ago period, with many projects still in product validation, tendering or delivery preparation. GGII expects China’s 2026 sodium-ion battery shipments to exceed 5 GWh, up more than 108% year on year, with storage exceeding 70% of the mix; that full-year figure is a forecast, not achieved volume.
