CATL said on July 16 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with European energy integrator Alfen N.V. The companies plan to deploy a combined 5GWh of Tianheng sodium-ion storage systems from 2027 in the Netherlands and other Western European markets. CATL says the system has a 25-year design life and can operate alongside lithium iron phosphate systems; the partners intend to use projects to adapt it to local grid requirements.
The memorandum concerns future deployment. Specific sites, phase schedules, commercial terms, individual project sizes and purchasing schedules were not disclosed. The 5GWh figure is the proposed cooperation volume, not capacity already delivered, operating or recognized as revenue.
