What links are included in the industrial chain of sodium-ion batteries?
The complete sodium-ion battery industrial chain is divided into three core links: upstream mineral raw materials, midstream cell manufacturing supporting industries and downstream application integration, with clear division of labor in each subdivision to jointly realize battery production, PACK integration and terminal launch. Upstream raw materials cover four subdivisions: metal raw materials, electrolyte raw materials, separator auxiliaries and conductive binders. Core sodium sources include soda ash, salt and sodium ores; cathode precursors contain Prussian blue, polyanion and layered oxide systems; hard carbon anode feedstocks are agricultural biomass, resins and industrial by-products; electrolytes consist of sodium salts, solvents and additives; supporting aluminum foil, ceramic separators, conductive agents and CMC/SBR/PVDF binders also belong to upstream processed materials. Midstream cell manufacturing acts as the chain core, subdivided into nine processes: batching, coating, calendering, slitting, winding/stacking, liquid injection, formation, grading and inspection, together with supporting automation equipment manufacturers (coaters, calenders, formation cabinets) and production line consumable suppliers. The midstream consists of cell enterprises and supporting equipment & material suppliers. Downstream links include PACK integration and terminal applications: PACK integration covers busbar, BMS, heat dissipation and sealing structural part processing; terminal applications span off-grid PV, low-speed vehicles, energy storage power stations, industrial equipment, military and portable power supplies, plus a supporting recycling chain involving retired cell disassembly, sodium/carbon material regeneration and resource reuse. The whole chain forms a closed loop: upstream resource supply supports large-scale midstream cell mass production, low-cost midstream cells drive downstream energy & power market expansion, and recycling realizes circular economy cost reduction. At present, all domestic industrial chain links achieve domestic independent control, with a complete supply chain from mineral processing to terminal integration and global production capacity competitive advantages.
